In November, we were one of the very lucky few luxury travel agents to stay at and experience the hottest new hotel in the Maldives; the island idyll that is Joali. This is the most highly anticipated property to open in this paradise destination for quite some time, and in this issue of Eight Roads In Residence, we report back from our stay…

JOALI Maldives is a luxurious artful retreat set on the picture-perfect Muravandhoo island in the Raa Atoll in the Northern Maldives. The resort is surrounded by brilliant deep blue waters, pristine white-sand beaches and coconut palms and has been designed in and around every tree, ensuring the delicate eco-system is maintained.

The private individually inspired one-to-four bedroom villas are decked out in an island-chic decor with deluxe objet d’art and feature uninterrupted Indian Ocean views, private infinity pools, carefully curated libraries, hand-picked artisanal amenities and private butler services.

Joali is situated in one of the deepest atolls in the world, and is fortunate to be blessed by tranquil lagoons, immaculate beaches and a lush landscape of swaying coconut palms. Internationally renowned design studio Autoban, architecture and design studio Atolye4n, and Tokyo-based Studio Glitt have all led the overall design and architectural ideas across the resort, from an awe-inspiring arrival jetty in the shape of a manta ray, to hand-card artisan wood, and an overall beautifully feminine feel, achieved by way of soft, muted colours that blend perfectly with the island’s energy.

Exceptional culinary experiences are offered, from bespoke menus and fine dining to special themed dinners, personalised cooking sessions and private in-room catering.

JOALI is one of the first and only hotels in the Maldives to be immersed in art, with interactive and experiential pieces featured throughout the island; many of which are a collaboration with local artists and artisans.

Joali’s villas are utterly breath-taking. Huge cathedral ceilings add to the spacious feeling and the stunning interior design is the same whether you are over the water or on the beach. It was hard to choose between my deck, my pool, the ocean or beach as to where to spend my time!

The nearby deserted island trip is a must - we were greeted with champagne and spent the afternoon eating canapes, snorkelling, playing with jet skis and sea bobs and listening to music. The island can be pre-booked for honeymooners, or those wanting to pop the question. Just stunning!

The team are just incredible and the service second to none; they create the most magical and bespoke experiences. The evening yacht cruise under the stars was unforgettable - with an exceptional Saoke Japanese tasting menu alongside a delicious Sake experience by entertaining sommelier Fabrice.
